—The Room

Hello Folks,

After a bit of a hiatus, Friday Night Film School is back in action. This week Professer Child and Professor Prescott tackle The Room (2003), a film that redefines what it means to make an awful film. If you’ve not seen the film, take a gander at this compilation and you’ll get the gist of the remarkably awkward tone of this film.

Anywho, here is the latest ditty based on this schlock masterpiece.

Cheers!

—Nilbog

Good day to you,
Just wanted to post the ditty I put together for Friday Night Film School the other week. This one is based on Troll 2 (a.k.a the best worst movie). If you’ve not seen it, the basic premise is that a family vacations in the half-empty town of Nilbog, which happens to be inhabited by vegetarian goblins (in human form mostly). But thankfully, the ghost of the family’s recently deceased grandfather teams up with his grandson to defeat the goblins and escape the town.

Cheers!

Ello, ello,ello,
Here be the latest ditty for Friday Night Film School. This ditty is based on the 1985  joy that is Teen Wolf.  No need to go into much context, because if you haven’t seen Teen Wolf or at least know what it is, then there is something wrong with you. I decided to make an a cappella song for this one, as it’s been a while since I had recorded such a thing.

Cheers!

—Frankenhooker

Here be the latest ditty I put together for Friday Night Film School. It’s a ditty based on the film Frankenhooker (1990).

In the film, med student Jeffery Franken loses his fiancee, Elizabeth Shelly, in a tragic lawn mower accident (she accidentally runs herself over with a remote control lawn mower). After the accident, all that remains of Elizibeth is her head. Jeffery  vows to bring his fiancee back from the dead, Frankenstein style, by collecting various body parts (mainly from hookers) and reanimating the dead tissue.

The song is from Jeffery’s  perspective, vowing to bring his recently lawn-mowered fiancee back to life.

Cheers!

“Frankenhooker” by Paul-El

In honor of Friday Night Film School’s live show in San Francisco (and it’s theme: Re-Birth) our resident troubadour, Paul-El, has recorded a tender and moving ballad inspired by the film: Frankenhooker.

Don’t be ashamed if you cry a little.

—Miami Connection

Howdy, Howdy, Howdy,

With all the hoopla of wrapping up my first semester of grad school, navigating the holidays, and Friday Night Film School taking a few holiday breaks, songs and posts have been few and far between as of the last month. However, once Friday Night Film School begins the spring semester (and I begin my for-real spring semester) the posts should be pretty consistent.

Anywho, here is a song based on the re-discovered 1987 masterpiece that is Miami Connection. It’s difficult to describe just how wonderful this movie is, so here are a few bullet points.

  • The film centers on an 80’s New Wave band called Dragon Sound. Also, all the band members are masters of Tae Kwon Do.
  • This film has cocaine, obsolete technology, and melodrama.
  • There is a ninja motorcycle gang.
  • There are sword-fights, decapitations, and a kick-ass dance club.
  • Also, this film has the greatest letter opening sequence ever.
This film is just great and I put together a little song emphasizing its greatness.
Cheers!

P.S-I also recommend checking out the trailer.

—Jinx to Max

Hello,hello!
Again, sorry for the delay in updates. Grad school is keeping me busy to a silly degree. Anywho, here is a ditty I put together for Friday Night Film School based on the 1986 film Space Camp. The basic premise of the film is a group of campers at space camp are accidentally launched into space and grand adventure ensues.

The campers are accidentally launched into space by a well-meaning robot named Jinx. Jinx had befriended the youngest camper, Max (played by a young Joaquin Phoenix) and wanted to give him a chance to experience real space exploration. Only after launching the campers into space did Jinx realize that the chances of the campers dying in the cold vacum of space were very high.

I put together a ditty wherein Jinx sends a message of apology to Max, vowing to save the campers from imminent doom.

Cheers!

—Dig!

My apologies for the delay in updates. I’m wrapping up my first semester of grad school and holy Moses am I busy. Anywho, here is a ditty I put together for Friday Night Film School a few weeks back based on the documentary Dig! (2004).

The documentary follows the tumultuous relationship between The Dandy Warhols and The Brian Jonestown Massacre  . One of the most dramatic aspects of the documentary is Brian Jonestown Massacre’s front man, Anton Newcomb, self-destructing throughout the film. And so I put together a ditty, imploring Anton not to   self-destruct.

Cheers!

—Curse of the Demon

Here be the latest song I put together for Friday Night Film School based on the 1957 film Night of the Demon (aka Curse of the Demon) The song is based on the climax of the film, during which Dr. Julian Karswell (Satanic cult leader/ birthday clown) is forced to face the demon he’s been keeping at bay.

You can watch the whole film on youtube:Night of the Demon. If you care to, watch a clip of the climax from 1:32:00 to 1:33:50 to get a bit more context for the song.

Cheers!

P.S:

I am trying to add a bit more substance/context to these posts if and when I can.
